Business interruption recovery worksheet
A worksheet to build a credible interruption recovery period — clearing, rebuilding, replacing, recommissioning and restoring output — rather than a round number on a schedule.
Work through each stage and estimate a realistic duration in weeks. The total is the recovery period your cover should reflect — not the number on the current schedule. Stage 1 — Incident and clearing: How long to make safe, investigate and clear the site? Stage 2 — Rebuild / repair: Lead time for rebuilding or repairing the affected premises and plant? Stage 3 — Replace equipment: Lead time for critical machinery, including delivery, installation and commissioning? Stage 4 — Recommission and re-qualify: Time to bring the line back to validated output and re-qualify with customers? Stage 5 — Ramp: Time to restore output to the pre-incident level, accounting for customer tolerance and orders lost? Compare the total to your indemnity period. If the schedule is shorter than the worksheet, the gap is your uncovered exposure.
